Christmas in Color...
The girls posed for some pictures in front of Nana and Papa's Christmas tree -- it took long enough to get a decent one though!! Mom and I tried like crazy to get the girls to stand still long enough for a picture...but it sure did take a while!! :) These are the pictures we got in color. We took some in black and white too, which turned out just as nice!
What a Week...
...so Kate's chicken pox transformed overnight into a full-body rash underneath her skin. We spent over 3 hours at the doctor doing test after test, and nothing was conclusive. So, we just have to keep an eye on her and see if it happens again. Fortunately, it wasn't chicken pox, but we still have no idea if something was wrong or if she was having a delayed reaction to all the medications she has been on. Who knows?!? Either way, here are the pictures of her after the rash started to get worse.... makes me itch just looking at it!

From the Mouth of....
Kate
The girls were eating breakfast, and Kate spilled a little bit of milk. I grabbed a napkin out of the kitchen and wiped it up. This napkin happened to be blue, as that was the brand on sale when we purchased them. Kate gasped and said, "A blue napkin? We must be rich." :)
While I was applying calamine lotion to Kate's chicken pox spots, she wormed and wiggled. I asked her to settle down and told her it would soon be done (the application, that is). She looked at me and said in the most pathetic voice, "I just don't think I can do this anymore. It's making me crazy Mom!" A few minutes later she said, "I don't know if I can do this for a few days. I look miserable!" :)
Kate's friend Seren is moving to Texas soon. She said to me, "We should move too!" I asked her where she wanted to move, and she replied, "Maybe Texas!" "Texas?" I asked, "But we don't know anyone in Texas." She looked at me very seriously and responded, "Well, we'll know Seren!"
Seren also has a horse. Kate thinks this is the neatest thing and often asks why she doesn't have a horse like Seren. Well, we had this discussion again the other day, and I asked her where we would even put a horse. She said, "We can build a fence in the front yard, and it can live there." Then I asked how we would pay for the fence. She said the store would just give it to us (ah, the mind of a child!). I asked how we would pay for the horse. Again, she said the store would take care of it. Finally, I asked, "Well, Kate, who will pick up the stinky horse poop?" She held up her finger, as if she was formulating an answer, then replied cleverly, "Kent!" :) How quickly she passed on the smelly job!
Sarah
I tucked in Sarah the other night and told her that Kate had school. That meant that Sarah and I would get a girls day together. She said, "But I don't want to play with you Mom. I want to go to school with Katherine." I said, "You mean you don't want to spend the day with me?!?" She replied cooly, "No, I don't." Well, at least I know where I stand!
I've been on Kate's case about whining lately. It seems to be all she does. Often I will tell her I'm not going to listen until she changes her tone, or I won't give her what she is asking for unless she does it properly. I guess Sarah's been picking up on this because the other day, Sarah took Kate's toy. Kate promptly began whining, "Sarah took my toy!" Before I could say a thing, Sarah said to Kate, "I will give it back when you stop your whining." I couldn't help but laugh!
At church this past week, the girls got to do some Christmas "shopping" in the children's church. I guess people donated gifts that the children could wrap up for members of their family. Kate's gifts were very appropriate, but Sarah's were a bit more...oh, let's say egocentric. :) She came back with two gifts. One tag said "To Katherine, From Sarah." The other tag said, "To Sarah, From Sarah." I asked, "Did you get a gift for yourself Sarah??" She said, "Yes." As soon as we got in the house, the girls started ripping open the packages (I guess they didn't feel the need to wait for Christmas). Sarah purchased for herself a Spongebob Squarepants Chapstick set (she's really into Chapstick lately). I said, "Well, that's a really nice gift Sarah." She said, "I know. It's for me." :) I guess the whole gifting idea is still a little lost on her!

Finals, Flu, and Chicken Pox!
I can't believe it's been over a month since the last post...can you say SLACKER?!? Actually, I've been bogged down with school (finals were the first week of December), and then we were hit with the flu (not sure what strain of the virus though). Now we're battling chicken pox!
Kate came home from school yesterday and said to me, "Mom, my belly scratches. Can I have some lotion for it?" to which I responded, "I think you mean itches. And yes, you can have some lotion." Then she said, "Good, because it really scratches." I then replied, "Well, let me see... oh. Chicken pox. Lovely." So who knows where she picked it up, but now she's got it, and that means Sarah isn't far behind!
At first I was grumpy about it. I mean, between battling the flu and finals in the same week and now this, when do I get a break?!? But the more I thought about it, the more I am thankful for the situation as it is. I am on my winter break and home every day. I wouldn't be able to take classes if I couldn't take the girls to the day care, and Katherine is out of school now anyway, so she's not missing much either (except her Christmas party...). I guess the timing is, in a way, perfect.
Anyway, I didn't want anyone to think I had forgotten the blog! In fact, I will probably have chicken pox pictures up soon. And we are headed to Mom's this weekend, so that means we will have pictures of the girls trimming the tree and building a gingerbread house! What fun!
Hope everyone is happy and healthy!
